Homeschool - Planning Ahead

Probably one of the first tasks you should assign yourselfafter you have committed to your decision to homeschool would beto investigate the homeschooling law in your area. As a parentyou will need to understand your state’s laws and regulationsconcerning the operating of a homeschool. Each state sets itsown guidelines, parameters, and regulations for homeschooling.Some are quite easy and some are not. There is no generalstatement that applies to all states. Be sure to inquire and getcopies of all the homeschool rules and regulations for yourstate. Be sure to check with your state about mandatory school ages. Ifpossible don’t feel as though you have to begin homeschoolingyour child at the traditional age if the state allows. Studiesshow that many children that start traditional schooling at therequired early age also get bored earlier that those who startat a later age. Looking ahead what about college? Do home schooled kids havetrouble being accepted into colleges? Without question! Homeschooled young people have successfully enrolled in StateUniversities across the country, Tech Schools, even Ivy LeagueUniversities. Most experienced homeschool families try to purchase theircurriculum books used. There are literally an unlimited amountof resources for this on the internet alone. Many suppliers willsend you a catalogue. Homeschool seminars and other gatheringsare also a great place to pick up new and used text books. Stillnot sure? There are many homeschool support groups you can joinas well as all kinds of forums you can join on the internet.Many of these groups offer a variety of newsletters that you canalso subscribe to. A good homeschool curriculum will guide the parent to whatinformation is needed for a particular age or grade level. Textbooks are also a good source for giving complete instructionalmaterial as well as additional ideas for the subject matter. Just be sure to determine from your particular state what thehomeschool law and qualifications apply for the teaching parentas they will differ from state to state. Finding the stateregulations is easy with just a little research then you canmove forward with confidence.
